Socio-economic activity and water use - Tropical Rivers region (3.01)

Two early outputs from the People and the economy project are - (a) a 'demographic' report on the changing nature of people living in and visiting the tropical rivers region; and (b) a 'socio-economic profiling' report on the tropical rivers region.
The Demographic report looks at how mobile people are, how long they have lived in one particular place, and the age, gender and Indigeneity of the region's residents. The report also considers whether demographic trends observed in the past ten or fifteen years are likely to be carried forward into the future, and how this might influence the population makeup well into the 21st century. From a tourism perspective, the numbers and types of visitors to the region were profiled, along with the nature of the trips to the region. The report also produced a separate, demographic profile of 39 catchments across the tropical rivers region.
The Socio-economic profiling report provides information about the characteristics of residents and communities across the Tropical Rivers Region. Using GIS maps, tables, and words, the report looks at things such: as the percentage of people employed in different industries, average household income, the number of schools and airports within each catchment, the education level of residents, and key land uses. The report also produced a separate, socioeconomic profile of each catchment within the tropical rivers region.
